Lord Byron’s Cloak and the Marmore Falls

Public sculpture, inspired by verses from Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage and intended to commemorate the passage of the Grand Tour in the Terni area:

In the Words of Lord Byron

“I saw the Cascata del Marmore of Terni twice, at different periods, once from the summit of the precipice, and again from the valley below. The lower view is far to be preferred, if the traveller has time for one only; but in any point of view, either from above or below, it is worth all the Cascades and Torrents of Switzerland put together. . . .”

As both perspectives are seen in photos by our Italian friends,
Who know the Switzerland which Byron goes on to put down.

Roads Hard; Pup Tents Wet

Sight Seeing #1: Cascata delle Marmore

The only hitch in this aversion to the history:
It skips most of the stages by which falls go
All the way back to the glory that was Rome
Up through the intricate politics of the Vatican.
Beyond to dark satanic mills; then electricity!
